どういたしまして   =

どう () means “how”  +  いたしまして ()comes from 致す which means “to do”; usually written using kana alone. 

So, the whole expression could mean (it is "how it happened") , but used, in reply to (ありがとう) to mean(not at all), (don’t mention it) or (you are welcome).

I assume the translation above just gives the meaning, does anyone know the exact wording or how that saying became what it is ( in case its just meaning). Its not vitaly important but if someone isbored....

They are interchangable and pronounced the same. I think special characters like 'ō' are used when available but in their absence 'ou' works. 

Maybe.

sorry....I try to learn while use this site and google translate. On this one last  I found this word so: "Dōitashimashite" and here "douitashimashite". Why?
