Origin and construction of 朕
- 会意。「月(<舟)」+「关」、「关」は両手で物を捧げることを象り、舟形の器で捧げ持った様か、舟の浮力で浮かび上がることを意味、ともにあるものが際立つことを意味した。元の音は「ヨウ」であり「称」等と同系、「勝」「騰」等に音や形が引き継がれた。殷代に王子の自称として用いられた例があるが、「チン」は音を借りたもの(一説には「眹(きざし)」と誤ったものとも)、始皇帝により、皇帝の自称の用途以外の用法は禁じられ、以来、その他の意味は失われた。(以上、說文解字ほか藤堂及び白川による)
