武器として誕生し使用していました。

I need some help with the end of those verbs, I don't got exactly what  "していました" does. ( Or in this context)

Like, して *  い * ました ?

(this is my first post, If I'm doing something wrong please let me know)

It's the て・いる form which indicates the verb is in an ongoing state.

Verb: 使用・する, te-form: 使用・して

いる: polite past form: いました

使用・する means "to use"

So 使用・しました means was being used.

Hope that helps!

So, I could write like

"...使用している." and get the same meaning?

thanks for the attention

"...使用して・いる." is in the plain-present form. (ie, is being used).

"...使用して・いた." is in the plain-past form. (ie, was being used).

"...使用して・います." is in the polite-present form.(ie, is being used).

"...使用して・いました." is in the polite-past form. (ie, was being used).

If you wanted the same meaing in the plain form, you'd use the second example above.
