5channel Thread Title

Nowadays, it seems like tying a bow with toilet paper shows femininity...

Tweet & Comments

When I went into the public toilets there was a toilet paper tied as a bow but I really want them to stop...
I looked it up, thinking “no way”, “Show your femininity in the toilet!” articles saying as such came up a lot...
After finishing business, with the hands you haven’t washed about taking the trouble of pulling out the paper wastefully and doing this I only felt their thoughtlessness...

Comments

Don’t play in the toilet.
How the hell can they think of doing this?
It looks like the toilet is going to get clogged because the knot is tight
If it’s in the men’s toilet, it would be pretty scary
I will permit it if it’s a phoenix
How much paper is used for the phoenix
I might bring the phoenix home
If I find this after waiting for so long, I will kill them
It surely makes me mad

ざわざ (adv. “taking the trouble”)

Did you come all the way to my place to give me the souvenir? Thank you.
You don’t have to come all the way to school to pick me up.
I came all the way to eat the popular ramen but the restaurant was closed today.

NOTE

Difference between わざわざ and せっかく both meaning “taking the trouble of doing something”:

  • わざわざ – emphasises the fact that someone has gone out of their way to do something
  • せっかく – emphasises appreciation of someone’s effort or implies that the speaker thinks the opportunity is desirable
Sorry for being away even though you came all the way to my place.
Sorry for being away even though you came all the way to my place (and I regret that I missed the opportunity).
Since we got a lot of snow, we might as well make an igloo (as it’s a good opportunity).
Thanks for coming all the way here.

In the examples, only the third one can be replaced with せっかく as eating the popular ramen is the opportunity that the speaker desired:

I came all the way to eat the popular ramen but the restaurant was closed today (and I am so upset that I missed the opportunity).

よく (used sarcastically when criticising someone’s action)

How can you watch splatter films while eating food.
How dare you say such a thing to me?
How can you remain calm after being bullied like that.

Verb Masu Stem + そう (look like it’s about to/going to …)

Oh, the jacket button looks like it’s going to come off!
There was a girl who looked like she was about to cry.
It’s still spring but it’s already hot. This summer looks like it might get hot.
