i have seen this word next to cream multiple times

"生クリーム"

that should translate to heavy cream in english

i wonder how a kanji related to life got there

生(なま)ク(ク)リ(リ)ー(ー)ム(ム) - is fresh or heavy cream

You can also find similar words to it like

生(なま)ビ(ビ)ー(ー)ル(ル) - unpasteurized beer or draught beer

生(なま)卵(たまご) - raw egg

生(なま) 「なま」means raw, uncooked fresh.

Note it is a different reading to 生「せい」above
