Noobie needs help getting started

Just signed up today. Need a little help getting started. Question:

1) I didn't see a search function on the forums. Want to search to see if a question I have has already been addressed so as to not create unnecessary duplicate question/answer. How do I search the forums for a keyword or text string?

Update - Figured out answer to 2nd question which I have deleted.
