Grammar problems/questions?, Page 2

So I picked up the Genki I book that can be found in the resources tab on this site, and I have to say, it is a great book and would definitely recommend it. I've been having a litte issue though... The VERY first lesson in the book is "Greetings", such as "good morning," "goodbye," and so on... I have pretty much got the hiragana set down, but when I came to the phrase "good evening," I noticed that the characters are こんばんは, which is konbanHA, not konbanWA.

My question is... Why is the character は used instead of わ? I have read in different places that when わ is used as a particle, it is written as は, but honestly, why it's that way doesn't make much sense to me... I have also noticed that in most sentences that I have seen, the は is used instead of わ, but still keeps the "wa" sound. Could someone please clarify this for me, please?

Would this be fine? (Nevermind the verb endings used, it is ok as long as the tense remains the same.)

Also, just wanted to mention something on using の at the ending of sentences. It is usually used for emphasis, sort of like the equivalent of italics. It is used when clarifying and emphasizing something. It's kind of hard to explain, but I would say that is generally how it is used. :)

Also, it is used in an anime, even in a family setting (not anime) where there were polite exressions needed. Base 3 form of the verb + no desu or in any verb ending denotes emphasis, it is also generally used that way but it will still depend on the intonation and how it is used. Particularly for third persons or just asking questions.

Now, I started doing that form, base 3, ta - form, base 1 + nai, base 2 + tai all added with "no desu" in the end.

I am saying this so that you will not think that I am always talking while emphasizing. ^^ jaa ne

I looked at the lesson :). I guess in talking to Japanese, I haven't heard it used all that much, but it was a good lesson! And looks like a good site.

Guys, need help here. ^^   This is an intransitive verb, is that as in English or as in Japanese? If it is so, how should I translate this sentence using this verb? "Whenever Rita passes by the corridor, (this corridor is a typical school premise) the eyes of boys turns into shinning heart shaped bubbles."   Thank you very much for hearing me on this.

So does this mean that it is a transitive verb in Japanese where it can take an object? As in your construction, "rouka no soba wo toorikakaru" ? toorikakaru is a transitive verb as in Japanese.......I got confused a little because it is lable as an intransitive verb...Am I correct in my statement?

It is a little confusing, but I looked it up and it can take 'wo' as in this sentence, which defines what you are passing by. I think kakaru is usually intransitive, but it can still take wo like in the sentence byouki wo kakatta (i got an illness).
