Which form of "mother" to use?

I'm trying to practice by writing a little dialogue with the words I am learning but I am stuck because I'm not sure what word is the proper way to refer to one's own mother. Is it okaasan or something else?

if youre talking about your mother it should be "haha", because "okaasan" is refering to someone else's mother.

You call your own mother okaasan, and haha refers to mothers in general, i think? someone correct me if im wrong, but i think thats right.
