In this lesson we will learn about some more counters which are commonly used(杯、冊、台、階、回).
The ~杯「~はい」counter can be used for cups or glasses of drink (coffee, tea, soft drinks, juice, water, beer etc), as well as for bowls of soup.
Note on pronunciation
The ~冊「~さつ」counter can be used for books, magazines, memo pads, or any bound volume.
The ~台「~だい」counter can be used for furniture (tables, chairs, beds, benches), electrical equipment (microwaves, mobile phones, computers), and vehicles (cars, buses, trucks, but not train carriages and planes).
There are no special pronunciation rules for ~台.
The ~階「~かい」counter is used to count floors of a building. The ground floor is considered to be the first floor(一階)in Japanese.
The ~回「~かい」counter is used to count occurences or how many times something happens.
