Comments for 受け入れる

Hello, I have a small question if you wouldn't mind assisting.

I know 受けいれる / ukeireru  means "accept" but does it mean a *specific* kind of acceptance? For example, is it possible that this particular kind of "acceptance" can be a passive/sad kind of acceptance? Like someone who accepted something that they were not pleased with? For example; "I accepted that I did not pass the test." or something like; "I accept that my husband no longer loves me." 

I'm only asking because from what I understand, and I may be wrong, 受け身 / ukemi has "passive" tones to it, so I'm wondering if the "uke" in ukeireru indicates a passive attitude  as well?
